Hyeyeon Seok is a pianist, collaborative pianist, and piano instructor based in Madison, Wisconsin. She is passionate about helping students of all ages and experience levels develop confidence, technical excellence, and artistic expression through individualized piano instruction. Her honors include First Prize at the Charleston Piano Competition, the Edda Valborg Ofstie Memorial Award at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, Second Prize in the Bruce P. Carlson Student Scholarship Competition, and Finalist recognition in the UW–Madison Concerto Competition.
Hyeyeon earned her Doctor of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she served as a teaching instructor for group piano classes, a private lesson instructor, and a choir accompanist. Prior to her doctoral studies, she received her Master of Music from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and her Bachelor of Music from Seoul National University.
During her doctoral studies, Hyeyeon’s research focused on the piano music of Frank Martin, culminating in a doctoral dissertation exploring his Eight Preludes for Piano. Her scholarly interests include twentieth-century piano repertoire, performance practice, and the relationship between musical analysis and artistic interpretation.
As an active performer, Hyeyeon has presented solo recitals, chamber music performances, and collaborative concerts throughout the United States and South Korea. Her experience collaborating with vocalists, instrumentalists, and choral ensembles enriches her teaching by bringing practical musicianship and real performance experience into every lesson.
Her teaching philosophy emphasizes building a solid technical foundation while fostering musical curiosity, creativity, and confidence. She believes that every student learns differently and strives to create lessons that are engaging, supportive, and thoughtfully tailored to each student’s individual goals.
피아니스트 석혜연은 서울대학교 음악대학을 졸업한 후, 장학금을 수혜하며 미국 신시내티 음악대학(University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music)에서 피아노 연주 석사(M.M.)를 취득하였으며, 전액 장학금을 수혜하며 위스콘신대학교 매디슨 캠퍼스(University of Wisconsin–Madison)에서 피아노 연주 박사(D.M.A.) 학위를 취득하였다.
재학 중 그룹 피아노 강사, 개인 레슨 강사 및 합창 반주 조교를 역임하며 다양한 교육 및 연주 경험을 쌓았으며, Charleston Piano Competition 1위, Bruce P. Carlson Student Scholarship Competition 2위, University of Wisconsin–Madison Concerto Competition Finalist, Edda Valborg Ofstie Memorial Award 등을 수상하며 연주자로서의 역량을 인정받았다.
박사 과정에서는 쇼팽 『발라드 전곡』 연주를 비롯하여 다양한 독주회와 실내악 무대를 통해 폭넓은 레퍼토리를 선보였으며, 프랑크 마르탱(Frank Martin)의 Eight Preludes for Piano를 중심으로 20세기 피아노 음악의 작품 분석과 연주 해석에 관한 연구를 수행하여 박사 논문을 완성하였다.학문적 연구를 통해 얻은 음악적 통찰을 실제 연주와 교육에 접목하며, 작품에 대한 깊이 있는 이해와 음악적 해석을 바탕으로 폭넓은 연주 활동을 이어가고 있다.
독주뿐 아니라 실내악, 성악 및 기악 협연, 합창 반주 등 다양한 형태의 연주 활동을 통해 폭넓은 음악적 경험을 쌓고 있으며, 이러한 무대 경험을 바탕으로 깊이 있는 음악적 해석과 앙상블 감각을 교육에도 자연스럽게 반영하고 있다. 또한 대학 및 지역사회에서의 교육 활동을 통해 어린이부터 성인, 취미 연주자부터 전공생에 이르기까지 다양한 학생들을 지도하며, 학생 개개인의 특성과 목표를 고려한 맞춤형 교육을 실천하고 있다.
현재 미국 위스콘신주 매디슨을 중심으로 연주 활동과 피아노 교육을 병행하며, 연주자이자 교육자로서 음악적 깊이와 예술적 감성을 함께 전달하는 데 힘쓰고 있다.
